CASE STUDY
Botori community is found at Bahati district in kionga. The community has a population of labour 2,500 people. Land productivity in Botori is low due to erratic rainfall, soil erosion, high population pressure and poor farming methods. The people suffer from various problems. In 1990 there was an acute diarrhea outbreak followed by measles and many people lost there lives. The chief approached KFC a funding agency to assist his people. He informed the agency that the major problems of Botori were:
• Ignorance
• Poverty and
• Lack of schools and health services

KFC paid a one day visit to Botori and selected a site on which to drill a well. The well was drilled and a pump installed. It was handed over to the chief in a colourful ceremony 2 months later.

The people used it for one month and the pump broke down. They sent a message to the chief informing him of this and meanwhile abandoned the well and began drawing water from unprotected sources. The well has not been repaired up to now and parts of the pump have been stolen.
