Answer question one and any two other questions.

Question One
We discussed three central sociological theories that are frequently used to examine and analyze social research identify the three theories. Then identify one social problem prevalent in Kenyan Society e.g. prostitution in Nairobi and how you would research and analyze it from all three theoretical frameworks. (30 marks)

Question Two
The sociological imagination as defined by C.W. Mills is a vital important concept in sociology. Examine what Mills meant by the sociological imagination and state why you think it helps explain why journalism students need to study sociology. (20 marks)

Question Three
The media in Kenya has been accused of fostering corruption by the alleged acceptance of ’freebies’ by journalists which are commonly called ’brown-envelopes’ a code name for bribes. State two ways journalists who take brown envelopes contribute to the wider corruption of other social institutions, state two more ways that journalists who do not take brown envelopes contribute to ridding Kenyan Society of impunity and corruption. (20 marks)

Question Four
Research is one common area of work that both journalists and sociologists share in doing. But the style and method of research that sociologists practices is said to be very different from the type of research that journalist do. Define the precise way a sociologist carries at her/his research, including a minimum of four steps followed. Then give four reasons why you believe journalistic research is either different from or similar to sociological research. (20 points)

Question Five
Identify four founding fathers or mothers of the sociological discipline and write about how specifically their work and view of society is relevant to Kenyan Society today. (20 marks)
