Explain three reasons why runoff data is used in the planning and design of irrigation systems.

Define the term "evapotranspiration" and discuss three reasons why it is important to get an estimated value of the evapotranspiration of an area when designing an irrigation system for that area.

Discuss three reasons why the crop grown in a given field determines the frequency of irrigation.

Compare and contrast the water holding capacity of "sandy soils", "loan soils" and "clay soils."

Mention four conditions which lead to soil salinity and state how each condition can be minimized.
