Question One

Harold Lasswell (1936) has been quoted as saying that politics determines who gets what, when and how". In light of the above quotation, compare and contrast what should happen in a just society and what happens in an inegalitarian and unjust society?. What role should the media play?(30 Marks)

Question Two
According to C Wright Mills (1959) "Power is the ability to control others, even against their will". What can the media do in order to control the excesses of politicians such as impunity and corruption? (20 Marks)

Question Three
Explain why it would be necessary for the media to rally the citizens of a country to support the acts of their government when its sovereignty is violated another country? (20 Marks)

Question Four
A crisis of legitimacy is a situation when the government loses the support and consent of citizens. What should the media do in such a situation? Should they engage in government propaganda or should they expose the rot within government? Give reasons for your answer. (20 Marks)

Question Five
Compare and contrast the work/role of media organizations in democratic and totalitarian states including the (risks and freedoms) faced by journalists in each case. (20 Marks)
