Using appropriate examples, clearly illustrate how context can affect a type of discourse that a speaker will use. (20marks)

QUESTION TWO
a) Define the term ’topic’ in one context of discourse analysis. (5marks)

b) Describe specific topics that are safely discussed in the following various settings. (15marks)

ii) A women`s social gathering
iii) A political rally
iv) At a bus stop
v) A family get together.

QUESTION THREE
a) Discuss the various functions that both the spokes and written language serve. (8marks)

b) Explain the critical elements that must be borne in mind when someone is using written language is effective communication is to be achieved.
