(b) A researcher is working with a new pearl millet variety whose
evapotranspiration was 1500m3
. The yield was 4 metric tons. Determine
the water use efficiency (WUE) of the crop using Viets (1962) equation.

Q4. Discuss the classification of field crops based upon carbon dioxide reduction.

Q5. (a) Explain how a fertiliser such as Ammonium Sulphate Nitrate (ASN) can cause
soil acidity if used in a field continuously for several seasons.
(4 marks)
(b) Calculate the grade of a compound fertiliser weighing 600 kgs made
from 200 kgs Sulphate of Ammonia (SA), 300 kgs Super Phosphate (SP) and 100 kgs of Muriate of Potash. (6 marks)



6. (a) Explain how air pollutants such as fluorides, ozone (O3) as well as vehicle
and industrial fumes can affect crop production.
