SECTION A
1. Illustrate the “Rostow’s Stages of growth Theory” and provide a critism. [ 5 marks]
2. Discuss the causes of growth and development. [ 5 marks]
3. Describe any three social and economic indicators of development. [ 5 marks]
4. Using relevant examples Differentiate between the following concept “Economic
Growth” and “Economic Development”. [ 5 marks]
5. Discuss the rational of local participation in extension programme planning. [5 marks]
6. Write short essay on “Change agent” as use in agricultural extension. [ 5marks]
7. Discuss three reasons why extension programme should have a strong-in- built
monitoring and evaluation component. [5 marks]
8. Explain the reasons “The progressive farmer” approach is commonly used by extension
workers and its limitations. [ 5 marks]

9. a) Discuss the role of agriculture in rural development. [ 8 marks]
b) Many biases exist which tend to interfere with outsiders contact with rural poverty
in general with deepest poverty in particular. Discuss the most outstanding sets of biases.

10. a) Identify and explain four reasons affecting effective performance of extension services in developing countries and Kenya particular. [ 8 marks]

service.[ 7 marks]
11. Communication is an integral component of extension service in relation to agricultural
development. Discuss the directional considerations associated with communication
process. [ 15 marks]

12. a) Describe the theory of diffusion in the adoption of agricultural innovations and give the factors that influence the rate and the ultimate percentage of farmers who adopt the innovation.
