1.(a) Outline the circumstances under which a manufacturing firm would choose to redesign its production process.(10 marks)
(b) There are certain aspects that make up a systems design. Describe these aspects.(15 marks)

2.(a) Production is considered as a process of adding value to the final product. Describe the processes that contribute to the addition of value to the final product.(15 marks)
(b) A lot of time can be wasted during machine set up stage within a man-machine operational system. Highlight the ways in which this set up time can be minimised.(10 marks)

3.(a) Although electronic data processing is one of the most recommendable production management strategies, a large number of firms in Kenya have not embraced it. Highlight the reasons that may account for this situation.(10 marks)
(b) Many firms are adopting the just-in-time inventory system as a way of minimizing stock holding coasts. Explain the conditions necessary for such a system to work.(15 marks)
4.(a) Company XLT has put in place an elaborate plant maintenance programme. Highlight the reasons why the organization way have established such a maintenance programme.(10 marks)
(b) The high rate failure of small scale firms in many least developed countries may be as a result of the management problems inherit in such firms. Explain the aspects of product management that may account for this situation.(15 marks)
