1.a)Explain the following terms and their relevance to environmental studies

b)Using a ‘Bio-cultural approach’ explain how human ecology and adaptations are distinct from those of other animals. (15 marks)

2.Explain how ‘adaptation to local environmental conditions’ is the basis of
variation among human societies in terms of skin colour, body shape/size and
special features. (20 marks)

3.Discuss common features of ecology and adaptation to arid/semi-arid lands by
pastoralists and hunter-gatherers. (20 marks)

4.In the context of environmental sustainability, compare and contrast the ecology
and adaptations of agricultural communities and nomadic pastoralists in East
Africa. (20 marks)

5.Aquatic adaptations are the most viable human adaptations and environmentally
sustainable human ecologies. Discuss. (20 marks)
