PART A – COMPULSORY

1. a) Would you expect to find variations in strategic management practices of
companies in Kenya and those in North America? Explain. [15 marks]
b) Can strategic management practices developed in the private sector be
adopted for the public sector? Explain. [15 marks]

PART B – Any TWO questions.

2. After completing your course in Business policy, you may not secure top-level
management position immediately, or in the near future. What then is the purpose
of taking a course in Business policy? [20 marks]

3. Most Kenyan Parastatals have been performing poorly due to mismanagement. A
management consultant has proposed the use of turnaround strategy to save the
firms. What do you understand by a turnaround strategy and what reasons would you
give recommending an operating turnaround strategy for most Kenyan parastatals.
[20 marks]

4. Explain the concept of the Balanced Scorecard showing how it can be used to
help improve the management of a company strategy. [20 marks]

5. Critically evaluate the statement ………. “Corporate social responsibility is in
