This examination comprises two sections. Section A and Section B. Follow instructions in each section.

Section A
Instructions: Answer all questions in Section A. All questions carry equal marks

1. Explain what you understand by the concept of Environmental toxicology. [3 marks]

2. Distinguish using relevant examples between organic and in-organic toxins.[3 marks]

3. Explain the importance of the dose-response relationship. [3 marks]

4.Differentiate between antagonism and potentiation as used in toxicology.[3 marks]

5.Distinguish between active transfer and passive transfer of poisons within the body. [3 marks]

Section B
Instructions: In this section, answer question ONE and any other TWO

1.(a)Explain the health effects associated with carbon dioxide. [6 marks]

(b)Outline and briefly explain the various types of interactions with toxic
substances. [6 marks]
(c) Discuss roles played by orfila and parcelsus in the development of Toxicology.

2. Write an essay on the factors influencing toxicity to a substance. [15 marks]

3. Discuss how toxins are distributed within the body. [15 marks]

4. Write short notes on the effects of the following heavy metals.
(a) Lead
(b) Mercury
(c) Arsenic

5. Discuss the adverse health effects associated with herbicides and pesticides.
