SECTION ONE
1. Giving examples, briefly define the following:

2. List five signs of rodent infestation. [5 marks]

3. State four common characteristics arthropods exhibit. [4 marks]

4. Discuss why rodents and vectors should be controlled. [6 marks]

1.a) Giving examples, differentiate between complete and incomplete
metamorphosis. [5 marks]

b)Using relevant examples, briefly explain the following modes of disease
transmission by insect vectors. [15 marks]
i. Biological transmission
ii. Mechanical transmission

2. a) Compare and contrast the characteristics of mice and rats. [5 marks]

b) Briefly discuss the most appropriate methods that can be used to control
rodents. [5 marks]

c) State five main features that an ideal rodenticide should meet.[5 marks]

3. Describe the bionomics of THREE of the following vectors and state ways in
which they can be controlled. [15 marks]
a) Mosquito
b) Cockroach
c) Tsetse fly
d) Housefly
e) Ticks

4. “Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a sustainable approach in managing pests
by combining biological, chemical, cultural and physical tools in a way that
minimizes economic, health and environmental risks”. Discuss this statement.
