INSTRUCTIONS: Answer questions ONE and any other TWO questions.
1. Study sentences i-x below and then:
a) Copy in your answer book the underlined section only of each sentence
b) Indicate if the underlined section only of each sentence
c) State the type of phrase or clause the section is, e.g. Noun phrase, Noun clause etc.
d) State the function of the phrase or clause in the sentences, e.g. subject and object modifying verb etc.

2. Describe, using suitable examples, how the structure of objects in nature or in the world of technology is similar to the structure of grammatical units (20 marks)
3. Write two simple sentences of your own to illustrate each one of the sentence elements below. Remember to underline and label clearly the element in question in each sentence. Do not reproduce examples discussed in the lectures.

4. Describe the relation between the dominant element (in phrase) and the other elements in a phrase. Use appropriate examples to illustrate each kind of phrase
