a) It has been said that flow control and congestion control are equivalent. Is this true for the
Internet''s connection-oriented service? Are the objectives of flow control and congestion control
the same? Explain. [6 Marks]
b) (i) It is said that UDP is a connectionless protocol. Explain. [4 Marks]
(ii) List two applications that make use TCP and two that make use of UDP. [4 Marks]
(iii) Explain the meaning of a Handshaking protocol. Give an example of two such protocols.

a) (i) Dial-up modems, ISDN, HFC and ADSL are all used for residential access. For each of these
access technologies, provide a range of transmission rates and comment on whether the
bandwidth is shared or dedicated. [4 Marks]
(ii) Consider sending a series of packets from a sending host to a receiving host over a fixed route.
List the delay components in the end-to-end delay for a single packet. Which of these delays
are variable and which are fixed? [6 Marks]
b) Discuss IPv6 in detail, under the following fields:

(a) (i) It has been said that IPv6 tunnels through IPv4 routers; IPV6 treats the IPv4 tunnels as link
layer protocols. Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not? [4 Marks]
(ii) There are some of possible services that a link-layer protocol can offer to the network layer.
Explain any four of them. Which of these link-layer services have corresponding services in IP?

(b) (i) If all the links in the Internet were to provide the reliable-delivery service, would the TCP
reliable delivery service be completely redundant? Why or why not? [5 Marks]
(ii) What is the difference between end-to-end delay and delay jitter? What are the causes of delay
