Answer question one and any other two.

1. With examples, discuss the origin and development of the novel in Africa, paying attention to West and South Africa. [30 Marks]


2. Analyze how polygamy and religion affect women’s life in either So Long a Letter, by mariama Ba, Or in Xala by semebene Ousmane. [20 Marks]


3. Like the novel, the short story in the West and Southern Africa is concerned with specific issues that touch the society. Discuss supporting your answer with examples. [20 Marks]


4. For Tambu and Nyasha, the condition of the native as “nervous” comprises not only of colonization but also the condition of gender and the condition of female education. Critically discuss this in relation to Nervous Conditions by Tsitsi Dangarembga.
