1. (a) What is criminal law. [2 Marks]


(b) By giving examples, discuss the major elements of crime. [2 Marks]


(c) Crimes are often complex events with a range of criminal activity, undertaken by
a number of different people associated with the event. Discuss four types of parties to a crime. [12 Marks]


(d) Discuss by giving examples, four conditions that must exist for an act or omission to be considered a crime [12 Marks]


(e) With the exception of strict liability, discuss two elements that the accused person must have committed for the prosecutions to obtain a conviction. [2 Marks]

5. (a) To what extent would you attribute crime to rational choice of the individual
criminal? Discuss the main points in relation to the rational choice theory.

(b) Critically explore the functionalist theories explanations of crime. [10 Marks]
