1. (a) State and explain briefly the four measurement scales used in social research.

tendency. Suggest alternative measures under such circumstances. [3 Marks]

(b) A box contains 4 white and 2 yellow pieces of chalk. A sample of 3 pieces of chalk is selected without replacement. Let the random variable x be the number of white pieces of chalk. Determine the probability distribution of the variable x.

(c) A random variable x has a discrete probability distribution given as follows:
