QUESTION ONE

(a) Explain the relationship between diplomacy and mass communication.

(b) What are the main functions of Diplomacy?

(c) Modern Diplomacy is usually practiced in three fronts. Briefly explain three methods in which diplomacy is seen to have been practiced today.

QUESTION TWO

Explain by giving examples what is meant by the following diplomatic terms:

(i) Diplomatic mission
(ii) Embassy & High commission
(iii) Diplomatic protocol
(iv) Diplomatic immunity
(v) Foreign policy
QUESTION THREE

Global diplomacy gained impetus following the end of Second World War in 1945 and the
consequent formation of the United Nations. However, since the 1990s the world continues to
witness declining trends in modern diplomatic practice. Discuss why this is so.


QUESTION FOUR

The Migingo island on the shores of lake Victoria continues to be contested by the government
of Kenya and Uganda and poses serious diplomatic row. Assume you are the press attaché in the
Kenyan High Commission in Kampala. Using the knowledge learnt in media and
communication as well as in Diplomacy, explain how you would go about advising the Kenyan
government via the Kenyan high commission on resolving this row diplomatically.

QUESTION FIVE

Discuss the key factors that prompt states to initiate diplomatic relations with other states.
