SECTION A

1. Describe how the Protestants’ doctrine of the “priesthood of all believers” enhanced the growth of modern science in the 16th and 17th centuries. [15 Marks]

2. Critically examine why religious faiths have persistently excelled in the world today amid numerous scientific discoveries. [15 Marks]

SECTION B

3. “It is practically impossible to be a soldier for science and a loyal son of Religion” (Thomas Huxley). Giving your own standpoint discus Huxley’s view in relation to how you understand science and religion. [20 Marks]

4. Science and Religion are allies, but there are instances when they turn against each other. Giving practical examples show instances where science has gone against religious beliefs. [20 Marks]

5. ‘Charles Darwin’s Theory of the origin of species (1859) was developed to counter the creation story in the Bible and Koran’. Discuss. [20 Marks]
6. Elucidate how the Jewish teaching that “the knowledge of sciences is the knowledge of God” has enhanced the development of the Jewish culture today. [20 Marks]
