SECTION A:
Answer all questions (30 Marks)

Q1. Differentiate between the following terms as relates to crop production

(a) Sequential cropping and relay cropping [2 marks]
(b) Training and pruning [2 marks]
(c) Pre-plant incorporated and pre-emergent plant herbicides [2 marks]


Q2. Write short notes on the following terms

(a) Physiological maturity and economic maturity [2 marks]
(b) Economic injury level and economic threshold as relates to integrated pest
management strategy in crop pest control method. [2 marks]


Q3. (a) Explain why shifting cultivation cropping system would be referred to as self-
sustaining as compared to the static systems of cultivation. [3 marks]

(b) Outline three management strategies than can be utilized by farmers to overcome unfavorable temperature conditions in crop production. [3 marks]

(c) Briefly describe factors in a plant that may affect nutrient absorption in a plant.
[4 marks]

(b) Giving examples, outline the effects of temperature in the major plant process.
