1. Differentiate between the following terminologies. Use examples.

(c) Environmental Right and Right to Development [2 marks]

(d) Good governance and environmental governance [2 marks]

(e) Bilateral agreements and Multilateral Environmental
Agreements [2 marks]

2. List three important components of advocacy. [3 marks]

3. Briefly discuss provisions and the importance of the Biosafety Act of 2009 and
the name of the organization constituted to implement the Act. [4 marks]

4. The Environmental Policy 2012 proposes to mainstream cross-cutting issues such as poverty reduction, gender disability and HIV/AIDS in national and sectoral planning processes. Explain the rationale of this policy statement. [4 marks]

SECRION B: Answer any TWO questions in this section (40 Marks)

5. (a) Define a new and emerging environmental issue and discuss some of the issues
and how they affect environmental and biodiversity management and conservation . [10 marks]

(b) Discuss the relevance of EMCA Water Quality Regulation (2006) including the SIX key components of this regulation. [10 marks]

6. (a) The Forest Act (2005 promotes sustainable utilization of forest resources by local
communitiesand the private sector as well as their participation in forest management. Discuss. [10 marks]

(b) Discuss the statutory functions of the Kenya Forest Service. [10 marks]

7. (a) Discuss one Convention that was preceded by the Rio Earth Summit and its
importance in conservation. [10 marks]

(b) Name and describe the roles of two Conventions responsible for conservation of migratory species especially those that use wetland ecosystems. [10 marks]
