Question 1 caries 50 marks and the others carry 30 marks each
1.
a)
Explain the use of all under fives illnesses as an indicator in M & E in malaria
prevention and control programs.
b)
Describe briefly the role of four (4) government of Kenya Ministries in the
control of malaria.
c)
Explain giving relevant examples, the difference between bednet ownership
and bednet usage.
d)
Explain the M & E indicators in climate that would be important in malaria
prevention and control programs.
2.
a)
In Kilometer Moja Health Centre 3,116 patient were seen in the month of
August 2011. Six hundred and ninety (690) presented with fever. Three
hundred and twenty (320) were examined for malaria parasites. Forty (40)
were malaria parasite positive. Compute the malaria parasite positive rate.
b)
Discuss the factors that would influence the laboratory data in malaria parasite
diagnosis.

Discuss the M & E sources of data in malaria prevention and control programs
4.
a)
In Usweni village 300 houses were targeted to be sprayed for vector control.
One hundred ninety (190) were sprayed in that season. Computed the
proportion covered and explain why 100% could not have been achieved.
b)
Discuss what factors would influence the insecticide Residual Spray data.
5.
a)
Describe how the vector resting behaviour impacts on malaria prevention and
control programs

b)
Discuss various strategies in vector control.
