diagrams and relevant examples to elucidate your answers.

SECTION A
1. Describe the primary uses of epidemiology in public health practice. [15 marks]

2. Describe the different modes of transmissions of communicable diseases.[15 marks]

3. Using the epidemiological triad discusses the various determinants of disease and
suggest how the balance may be modified to prevent disease. [20 marks]

SECTION B

1. Summarize historical evolution of epidemiology while highlighting key scientists
involved and their contributions. [30 marks]

2. There is a suspected outbreak of H1N1 disease in your area of the operation.
Describe the procedure you would use to investigating the outbreak of the disease
and recommend feasible interventions. [30 marks]

3. Write an essay on the various approaches of expressing the natural history and
prognosis of disease while highlighting the merits and demerits of each.[30 marks]

4. Distinguish between case control and cohort study designs while looking at their
anatomy, merits and demerits. [30 marks]
