APRIL 2012 SESSION TAKE AWAY ASSIGNMENT

In this assignment, Hospital refers to a Health Facility which is capable of providing the required data. Indicate the level of the hospital you collected the data from and attempt all questions.
1.A death from a Puerperal cause is a death that can be ascribed to some phase of childbearing. Such deaths in a hospital are rare but important occurrences.
Visit a hospital and
a)Find the number of puerperal deaths that will have occurred in the hospital per every month for the last one year from the month of your data collection.

b)Find the mean number of the Puerperal deaths in that hospital

c)Assuming that the distribution follows the Poisson distribution, find the probability that the number of deaths the following month would be
i.Equal to the whole number nearest the mean
ii.Equal to zero
iii.Four or less
iv.More than six

2.Determine the top most prevalent disease reported in a hospital in the last one year
a)Collect the number of cases reported per month within the one year period

b) Make a table that includes the twelve months and show the
i. Frequency
ii. Cumulative frequency
iii. Relative Cumulative frequency of the data

c)Plot a
i. Bar graph
ii. Frequency polygon
iii. Cumulative Frequency graph of the data

d)Determine the
i.Mean
ii.Mode
iii.Median
iv.Standard Deviation
v.Coefficient of variation
(You need not put this data in class but regard them as finite many)

3.Select TWO hospital Wards.
a)Take the mean body temperature for the last five days the patient had been it the hospital (mean body temperature of the days they will have been admitted for those who had admission of fewer than five days)

b)Using the mean body temperatures above, calculate the
i. Mean
ii. Standard Deviation
iii. Standard error for data for the 2 wards
iv. Attach 50%, 70%, 95% and 99% confidence for each of the 2 wards

c)Can we conclude that the mean temperatures of those samples are different? (Use the t-test to test the hypothesis)
