Q1. Name three important accessories and facilities in a given laboratory. Explain
their importance. [6 marks]

Q2. In a given experiment, Mr. Soboi had a spillage of HCl (hydrochloric acid) on the
following places. Assuming it was a major spill, how would you advice him to
clean it?
(a) His body
(b) His clothes
(c) His working bench [9 marks]

Q3. If the spillage was concentrated sodium hydroxide, what would be your advice on
the cleaning process in 4 (a,b, and c). [9 marks]

Q4. Mr. Soboi was carrying out an experiment for the determination of sodium and
potassium from soil samples.
(a) Advice on the most probable method of analysis in the laboratory.
Explain. [3 marks]
(b) How would he carry out the sample preparation process. [4 marks]
(c) How would he mask for interferences if any. [4 marks]
(d)Explain how he would go about to obtain the sample concentrations of the
ions of interest if all chemicals and facilities are available. [6 marks]
