Launched in early 2020 as an online learning platform for students in primary and secondary schools in Kenya, Tutorke.com is transforming online learning by offering interactive and high quality online learning content.

Founded by Raphael Mutua and Janet Nzisa, the platform aims at providing high quality learning content in form of short video lessons, questions with video and text answers, model exam papers, class notes as well as online multiple choice tests (with automated marking). The platform has a website and an Android app with over 10,000 active users.

The startup's initial aim was to offer video lessons and solutions for Mathematics, Science, Physics, Biology and Chemistry. With time, the scope was widened to cover other non-science related subjects such as Geography, History and Government, CRE, English, Kiswahili, Business Studies among others.

The app and the website offer instant video solutions for most of the questions asked by students. Students can ask questions by typing the question or taking a picture of a question and uploading it.
The platform makes use of advanced image recognition technology and search algorithm to display video lessons related to photos of questions uploaded. The app has an accuracy level of over 85% in matching questions asked or pictures uploaded, to video solutions on the database. The search process is fully automated and solutions are provides within a few seconds.

"We are working on ensuring content for all primary and secondary school subjects is available. We have tens of experienced and qualified tutors tirelessly working on content creation and new content gets uploaded almost every day. Our tutors are adequately screened to ensure that only the best work on our platform," Raphael says.

"We want to make sure that all relevant learning content is available and easily accessible on our platform via the website or mobile app," he adds.
