Read the story below and then answer the questions that follow.
Wendo had prepared herself very well for this day. It was the inter-class athletics competition, and she
was representing her class, Grade 7 in the 100 metres race. Wendo was the fastest in the whole school.
She woke up very early on that day because the race was going to be the first event.
On her way to school two dogs. The dogs usually walked around Wendo’s village accompanied by their
owner, Mzee Mugwe.
One of the dogs disappeared and came out carrying a bone between its teeth. Suddenly, the two dogs
pounced on each other and started fighting. Wendo stopped to watch the fight which was becoming
more interesting. Her concentration on the dogs was interrupted by a voice.
“Hey, young girl, go to school,” Mugwe shouted, “leave the dogs alone. Dogs always fight over something.
It is their way of life. You will be late for school.”
Wendo remembered the interclass competition. she had taken a whole twenty minutes watching the dogs.
She started running to school. She was worried she would be late for the race.
Wendo arrived in school just in time to hear her name being called out for the race. She quickly changed
into her games kit and went to the starting line. Wendo finished the race in position three. Grade 7 class
was very disappointed.
