QUESTION ONE

(a) Read the following news scenario and write a story arising out of the same;
“Two rival political camps are holding respective political campaign meetings within two kilometers of each other. Their meeting end at approximately the same time and their respective supporters meet on their way home. Differences of opinion emerge, tempers flare up and a physical confrontation ensues. [10 Marks]

(b) Distinguish news features from news stories while giving examples of three types of each. [10 Marks]

(c) List and briefly explain five legal and ethical issues likely to face a media practitioner in the course of duty. [10 Marks]

(a) What in media terms is meant by “nose for news”? [5 Marks]

(b) Why is the media referred to as the fourth estate? [5 Marks]

(c) An enterprising young student wants to make a career in journalism. Other than the need for professional training advice on any other requirement that such a person should meet. [10 Marks]

Practically demonstrate the concept of inverted pyramid of news writing while formulating a
suitable headline for a hypothetical story of your choice. [20 Marks]

QUESTION FOUR

A newsroom operates as the news processing centre of a media house. Isolate and explain the
key activities and personnel of an ideal busy newspaper newsroom production [20 Marks]

QUESITON FIVE

Read the attached news story and explain the approach that you would use in producing a feature story. [20 Marks]
