Q1 (a) A stone is dropped from top of a building and takes 2.0 s to reach the ground .Calculate the velocity with which it strikes the ground. (2 marks)

(b) A car moving at a constant velocity of 20 m/s for 50s and then accelerate to a velocity of 25m/s over a period of 10s.This velocity is maintained for 50 s before the car is brought to rest with uniform deceleration in 15s.
(i) Plot the velocity-time graph and determine;
(ii)the acceleration.
(iii) The total distance covered.
(iv) the average velocity for the whole journey.
    (18 marks)
Q2. (a) State Newton''s first and second laws of motion. (4 marks)
(b) A car of a mass 200 kg accelerates steadily from rest to 20m/s in 5s.Calculate ;
(i) acceleration
(ii) the force required to produce this acceleration.
  (6 marks)
(c) A body x of a mass 6kg moves with a velocity of 3 m/s and collides head-on with another body y of a mass 4 kg moving in the opposite direction at 5 m/s. After the collision the bodies move off together with the velocity v. Calculate velocity v.  (10 marks)

(b) Define the terms;
(i) the centre of gravity.
(ii) resultant moment.

(c) A uniform bridge AB of length 15m weighs 60,000N and is supported at its ends. Calculate the reactions of the ends when the bus weighs 70,000N is at 10 m from the end A.
