Answer Question 1 and any other TWO Questions.

QUESTION ONE:

(a) In the month of August we had violence in the Tana Delta, you being a student of COMDEV, your community has called upon you to give a speech on conflict and to advise them on the conflict resolution process. [12 marks]

(b) Discuss the culture of peace vs culture of violence. [8 marks]

(b) Conflicts do not just occur; discuss the indicators of possible violent conflict.
[10 marks]

QUESTION TWO:

Discuss the life cycle of a conflict using illustration and giving relevant examples.
[20 marks]

QUESTION THREE:

(a) Conflict that happen at a community level are no different from conflicts at smaller, personal levels or at larger more diffuse levels except for their size. Discuss their characteristics. [6 marks]

(b) Explain the different levels of a conflict. [8 marks]

(c) A conflict can easily change from a peaceful conflict to a violent conflict; explain the factors that can cause this shift. [5 marks]


QUESTION FOUR:

(a) Explain the rules that one must follow when resolving conflict using the “Interest Bases Relational Approach”. [10 marks]

(b) Conflict is present when two or more parties perceive that their interests are incompatible and take/pursue their interests through actions that damage the other parties. Discuss how these interests can diverge and give examples. [10 marks]
