1. (a) Business development and prosperity depends on the environment in which it
exist. Explain the Kenyan business environment on how they affect business. [12 Marks]

(b) Distinguish between public limited companies and public sector forms of
business. [6 Marks]

(c) Motugi; Mokami, Kathure and Chayu are sole traders in Chuka, they have formed
a company which is not registered and they have no intention to register it.

(i) Advice them by listing reasons and importance of registered company.

[8 Marks]

(ii) Do you hold view that there is a company in existence as per the laws of
Kenya. Give reasons. [4 Marks]


2. “Most people desires to venture into business world but they argue that the major
hinderance is the lack of capital, otherwise they will do successful business.”

(a) Discuss the statement. [8 Marks]

(b) Outline eight major qualities of a good businessman. [4 Marks]

(c) Describe the methods one can use to identify the most viable business ventures.

3. (a) Failure to plan is planning to fail. As planning involves several activities in
business. Discuss and outline the major activities involved in business planning. [8 Marks]

(b) Based on Kenya’s companies act cap 486. Describe the procedures of forming a
public limited company to the point of commencement of business. [10 Marks]

(c) Explain what is a prospectus. [2 Marks]

4. (a) Social responsibility is an activity which requires planning and is costly to the
business, it doesn’t generate direct profits to the business. But it cannot be avoided at all costs. Justify. [10 Marks]

(b) Explain how the business can be socially responsible to the following persons.

(i) Suppliers. [3 marks]

(ii) Employees [3 Marks]

(iii) Government. [4 Marks]
