ii) Explain the term Nationalism in reference to the Romantic period of music. (10marks)

3. Briefly give an account of the life, works and contributions of the following composers.
i) Franz Schubert (10marks) ii) Peter I. Tchaikovsky (10marks)

4. (a) Distinguish between the following musical terms as used in the history of music periods.
(12marks)

i. The Grand Opera and Comic Opera.
ii. Strophic Lieder and through composed Lieder.
iii. Program music and Symphonic poem.


b) Define the terms; (8 marks)

ii) Concert Overture
iii) Song Cycle
iv) Music Drama

5. Define the term Orchestra. Discuss the change in size of the Orchestra from the Classical
to Romantic period of music. (20 marks)
