a) “Knowledge is of two kinds, we know a subject ourselves or we know where we can find information upon it. It has been observed that traditionally, education in most areas of study concentrate on the first kind of knowledge. Knowing a subject itself. Although this is largely what we are practicing it has been discredited as insufficient for comprehensive learning”. Explain why the method of making the subject itself known by student is viewed as insufficient. (4 marks)
b) “In higher education young people are being trained how to solve knowledge related problems and creating new knowledge products and therefore need to be information literate”. Discuss reasons why information literacy is important in the light of a concrete definition of information literacy. (11 marks)
c) Using examples discuss key knowledge and skills that an information literate person should demonstrate. (10 marks)
d) Give 5 reasons why it is important to assess an information literacy education programme. (5 marks)
e) Using examples distinguish between formative and summative assessment in information literacy education. (4 marks)
f) Discuss three principles of assessment. (6 marks)
