Kenya is a very talented country in international competitions. We have shone in many areas internationally such as ball games, athletics, beauty contests and sports among others.

In ball games such as football, baseball, rugby and volleyball, we have featured averagely except in football in which we do not go far. We believe that one day with determination and pride that Dennis Oliech and MacDonald Mariga bringing to the young children, we shall improve. Mostly in rugby, we have excelled with the likes of Injera, Humphrey Khayange and Asego among others doing wonders in Rugby world.

Remarkable to note was when the FIFA Football World cup 2010 took place for the first time on African soil in South Africa. It was significantly successful that shocked the world. Though a Kenyan team did not participate, but as brothers to South Africa, we all swam in the glory of hosting it. Some Kenyans went there for business offering services in the teams’ villages. The turn up was overwhelming! Spain carried the day for the first time in history, a prediction that had been done by a German Octopus named ‘Paul’.

In other sports like golf, swimming, tennis and motorcycle, we are budding out just fine with some very encouraging results.

The 2010 Miss World Beauty Pageant Competition, held in southern Chinese Resort Town of Sanya at the beauty Crown theatre, saw our own Natasha Metto earn a fast-track spot in the final. She was crowned ‘Miss Beauty with a Purpose’ for her anti-jiggers campaigns that was pioneered by her predecessor, former Miss World Kenya, Cecilia Mwangi.

Athletics is our most successful area where our participants have set their own records and worked harder to break them. Recently, David Rudisha passed the test of endurance and diligence as he trained tirelessly alongside other former runners. This earned him

a sterling performance in which he opened a new chapter of Kenya’s athletics history. He scooped the global title of the best Male athlete at the IAAF gala 2010. He broke his own record in 800 meters and promised to break it again in the oncoming Olympics. He brought home a gold medal.

In the long races, cross country, steeplechase and marathon, our teams have always done as proud by excelling. They have brought many medals from gold to bronze and have made our flag fly high as our anthem is sung on our honor. It has been a wonderful feeling as a country. It is important to participate internationally because it promotes co-operation, unity and peace.

Therefore, every Kenyan should strive to do something extraordinary out there that can boost our image positively. Maybe we should also try international bull fighting competitions!
