1. Briefly explain the following concepts in relation to water pollution. [10 Marks]

(i) Concentration of dissolved oxygen (DO)
(ii) Biological oxygen demand (BOD)
(iii) Coli form bacteria count (CB)
(iv) Point pollution sources
(v) Non-point pollution sources

2. The chemicals and fertilizers used in agriculture can be sources of soil, air and water pollutants. [20 Marks]

(a) Briefly explain the effect of agriculture on environmental pollution
(b) State the soil processes potentially influencing surface and ground water quality
(c) Briefly explain how pesticides could create imbalance in ecosystems.

3. List and discuss four major types of soil pollutants and their impacts clearly stipulating their impacts on environment and human health. [20 Marks]

4. Discuss the principles and control strategies of nutrient and pesticide losses to ground water. [20 Marks]

5. Discuss the main anthropogenic sources and health effects of each of the following air pollutants:

(a) Carbon monoxide
(b) Oxides of sulphur
(c) Oxides of nitrogen
(d) Hydrocarbons
