Useful universal constants: eo=8.854× 10-12 Fm-1 , µo=4p × 10-7 Hm-1
(a) A 15.0H inductor and 10.0O resistor are connected in series to a 20.0V source having no internal resistance. At time 3 seconds after the voltage is applied to the inductor-resitor combination, find;
(i) The current flowing in the circuit.
(ii) The rate at which energy appears across the resistor.
(iii) The rate at which the source is supplying energy to the circuit.
(iv) The rate at which energy is stored in the magnetic field.
(b) A 1.8kO resistor, 0.02H inductor and 1.5nF capacitor are connected in series to a 60 Hz, 250Vp source. Find:
(i) The circuit impedance.
(ii) The current flowing in the circuit.
(iii) The voltmeter reading across each of the three elements.
(iv) The phase angle between the source voltage and circuit current.
(c) A conducting cylinder of radius Ro and length L and carrying charge –q is surrounded by a conducting cylindrical shell of radius +4 q. Find:
(i) The electric field strength at point r inside the conducting shell.
(ii) The charge on the inside and outside surface of the conducting shell.
(iii) The electric field strength at point r inside the conducting shell.
(d) Two charged concentric thin spherical shells of radii 14.6 cm and 16.4 cm carry charges of -64µC and +46µC, respectively. Find the electric, E, and electric flux ,FE , at a point 16.14cm from the centre of the shells.
