Question One (30 Marks)
Read the case study below, and answer the questions that follow.
Recently, an employee of Kabarak University was overheard telling one of her colleagues on their
way out after work at 5pm.
“It could have served a lot better if the University had a day care centre
within the compound”
In view of the above statement, the management board decided to carefully look into the matter
and provide a tenable solution to the issue. They instituted a research team led by you as a
research student.
a) Suggest a possible and most appropriate title that the research can take (2 Marks)
b) Write down the statement of the problem as indicated by the concerned employee
(4 Marks)
c) Outline any FOUR specific objectives that the study will take (4 Marks)
d) Provide FOUR research questions that the study will seek to answer (2 Marks)
e) Draw a schematic diagram of a conceptual framework that the research will adopt as it
seeks to address the outlined objectives in (c) above (4 Marks)
f) Choose an appropriate research design that the study will adopt and explain why you
choose the design. (3 Marks)
g) Outline the sampling design that the study will adopt and explain the reasons why such a
sampling design was taken (3 Marks)

h) Write down TEN potential sample questions that would be placed in the questionnaire for
the research (5 Marks)
i) What would be the most likely limitations of this study? Outline the delimitations that you
would put in place (3 Marks)

Write short notes on:
a) Informed Consent
b) Confidentiality
c) Cluster Sampling
d) Action research and
e) Snowball sampling

Question Three: (15 Marks)

research. Discuss this statement showing you are aware of the characteristics of a good literature
review

a) Data analysis is a critical for any researcher. Outline clearly how it is done and why it is
considered important (10 Marks)
b) Presentation of research findings provides an avenue through which a reader can
understand clearly the research findings. Highlight the role of data presentation to a
research (5 Marks)

Question Five : (15 Marks)
a) Compare and contrast descriptive research and exploratory research. Outline the
circumstances under which each can be used. (8 Marks)
b) Distinguish between probability sampling from non-probability sampling (7 Marks)
