1. (a) Critically examine the dimensions that ought to be fulfilled for an activity to qualify to be referred to as education. [8 marks]

(b) Discuss the meaning of the statement that “education is life in itself and not merely a preparation for life” as stated by John Dewey. [12 marks]
2. (a) What is the value of philosophy of education as a discipline? [5 marks]
(b) Attempt an analysis of the axiological dimension of the Kenyan philosophy of education. [10 marks]
(c) Suggest how it can be applied in the classroom and in the schools. [5 marks]

3. With the use of examples, make a distinction between the teleological and deontological theories with respect to the practices of rules and regulations in Kenyan schools. [20 marks]
4. “Our educational policies must of necessity be based on some ethical considerations.” With use of relevant examples, discuss the above statement in the light of the importance of ethics in the field of education. [20 marks]

5. (a) Distinguish between normative ethics and meta-ethics as two orientations of the study of ethics. [10 marks]

(b) Discuss the relevance of each of the above orientations of ethics in education. [10 marks]
