1. (a) Discuss how John S. Mills social and political philosophy with special reference on human freedom and liberty influence his views on educational policies and practices? [10 marks]

(b) Discuss the relevance of John S. Mills philosophy to the theory and practice of education in Kenya today. [10 marks]

2. (a) Discuss Paulo Freire’s contributions to the understanding of the “banking concept” of education. [10 marks]

(b) Describe FIVE qualities of a curriculum that can be developed to overcome the culture of the “banking concept” in our education institutions. [10 marks]

3. (a) Discuss Nyerere’s contributions to the development of educational thought in Africa with specific reference to the philosophy of self-reliance. [10 marks]
(b) Discuss FIVE challenges of the philosophy of Education for self reliance that are vested in Kenya’s 8-4-4 education system. [10 marks]

4. (a) Using examples, justify that philosophy of Education is indeed an Educational Theory. [10 marks]

(b) Some of the schools of thought in the ancient Greek education included the sophists, the Epicureans and the stoics. Discuss the contributions of each school of thought of educational issues in the contemporary world. [10 marks]

5. (a) State the similarities that would be reflected in a school curriculum proposed by the proponents of pragmatism and realism philosophies. [10 marks]
