2. Describe main features of grazing and detritus food chains. [4 marks]

3. Distinguish between density dependent and density independent factors that influence growth and regulation of population citing appropriate examples. [6 marks]

4. (a) Differentiate between macro and micronutrients in reference to plants. [1 mark]

(b) Describe and illustrate the nitrogen cycle. [4 marks]

5. Write explanatory notes on the following concepts

(i) Ecological pyramids
(ii) Survivorship curves
(iii) Planktonic communities [6 marks]
6. Compare and contrast the r and k natural selection strategies. [5 marks]


Section B: (40 Marks): Answer any two questions from this section


7. Discuss various interspecific and intraspecific associations in the biosphere and state their significance. [20 marks]

8. (a) Explain what a climax community is. [5 marks]

(b) Describe the processes involved in attainment of a climax community in named ecosystem. [15 marks]

9. Discuss the impacts of climate change and state the possible mitigation strategies.
