SECTION A: 25 MARKS

1. (a) List and describe five categories of print media. [5 Marks]

(b) Rewrite the following sentences correcting the style errors. Use the standard stylebook for journalists.

(iii) He jumped 12 feet and three-eighths inches for university record.

(iv) Please address this letter to Miss Taunya Mallory at 101 west California Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
(v) Chair of the chemistry department and women’s soccer coach Dr. James McGahan. [20 Marks]

(c) Rewrite the quotations below punctuating them correctly. [10 Marks]

(iv) The university cultural week
(v) The newly appointed faculty dean.

3. Lurking in many interviews is a hidden story. What do you understand by this statement and how can you identify a hidden story in an interview? [15 Marks]

4. Analyse the appropriate structure followed when writing an arts review for your newspaper. [15 Marks]

5. “Some journalists openly argue against the idea of objectivity saying there is no such a thing. Some have wiped it off the list of principles of news writing saying only a machine can be objective but may be even a machine cannot since it only reproduces what it was set to” (Mukokoma, 2003)
Using relevant examples from Kenya’s media, Discuss the statement above.
