Many artists, after so many days in the studio and countless hours of rehearsals find out that they still lose out on good sales since the quality of music the recording studio produces is actually bad. The key to a good album is the environment it was created in. That means that the recording studio is the basic foundation to enjoyable and hit tunes. So how do you identify a good recording studio?

An artist should consider a hi-quality studio environment; complete with sound proof room and an engineer who is fully qualified to work with all musical instrument with good knowledge of the equipment in the studio since the music must be recorded properly before it can be considered by a professional mixer and subsequently mastering engineer. If the music wasn't recorded properly, then it may present artificial limitations and its quality will be compromised.

Sometimes a pro studio may be out of question for independent and upcoming artists. The cost of recording may pose a challenge and even if they commence the process, halfway through the whole music creation, the artist may encounter financial strains and subsequent fallout from the studio. But there is good news. There are many smaller studios that can offer quality music production all the artist needs is to identify a good sound engineer since he/she is the captain of the ship and regardless of the size of the studio a good engineer will always know what course of action to take to produce a good track.

The engineer, the most important link in the production process. Look for credentials to see what other acts have been recorded by the studio engineer, listen to their work and try to imagine how the same can generally fit into yours. While a poor engineer with all resources may produce

substandard results, a good engineer can get great results with average gear. If possible try to look for an engineer who is well-versed with the style of music you’re recording so matching the engineer with your style may be a good place to start.

The facility in the studio may be a contributing factor to your music success. If you are a full band and plan to track some or part of your songs by playing live together to get the feel and spontaneity of your performances then make sure the studio can accommodate that. On the other hand, if you are singing solo then a small project studio might be all you need. Make sure you are comfortable in the vicinity you are working in since you are at your best when relaxed.

Finally, since experience is a good teacher, at times is best to ask other artists where they recorded at. Ask three or four popular artists where they got their big break from. Ask about price, location, the qualification of the engineer and the overall experience.
After careful consideration of these factors, an artist is assured of good sales return and growth in talent.
